Process Technician – Injection Molding

General Summary

UPM is growing and with this growth we need capable injection molding process techs. This job will assist shift supervisor with activities of production workers by performing the following duties: machine start-ups, process fine tuning, cycle improvements, quality improvements, processing for electrical savings, scientific molding, training technical staff, verify BOM, and process scrap reduction.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Evaluate mold set-up readiness for start-up.
  • Start-up and cycle in all mold set-ups completed on shift.
  • Evaluate Cycles standards on all machines running during shift. Improve cycles as necessary.
  • Inform supervisor of any cycles that cannot be achieved with recommendations for mold, machine or material improvements necessary to achieve cycle standard.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and suggests adjustment of machines.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets  specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Evaluate scrap results from previous shift, Improve scrap as necessary.
  • Inform supervisor of any scrap reduction that cannot be achieved with recommendations for mold, machine or material improvements necessary to achieve scrap reduction.
  • At start of shift, check all machines’s BOM Job packets to ensure current Set-up Sheet is available. Complete a Set-up Sheet for all machines missing one in the Job Packet.  Complete updated Set-up Sheet at the end of all jobs completed during shift. Submit completed Set-up sheets to Production Lead at end of shift.
  • Supervise shifts on weekends or days the Shift Supervisor is not working.
  • Other duties may be assigned

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect  data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. UPM requires ongoing process training which is provided by the company.

Mathematical skills

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Communication

Other Skills and Abilities

Forklift Certification (issued by UPM), knowledge of lock out tag out procedures.
