Plastic enclosures, housings, and structural components for industrial electronics protect sensitive internal systems — PCBs, displays, sensors, power electronics. These parts require:
Cosmetic Surface Expectations. Visible housings — kiosks, AV equipment, signal boosters, rugged handhelds — require consistent texture, gloss, and color across long production runs. UPM produces Class-A painted surfaces and matched silk-screen, pad-print, and hot-stamp decoration in the same Baldwin Park facility that molds the parts, inspected under one ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
Tolerance Sensitivity. Enclosures must hold tight tolerances on board-fit features, mating surfaces, and structural ribs so that PCBs, displays, and internal sub-assemblies align without warpage or dimensional drift across production runs.
Integrated Assembly Requirements. Electronic products combine molded components with customer-supplied PCBs, fasteners, gaskets, and labels. UPM handles multi-level BOM assembly, insert installation, ultrasonic and hot-plate welding, and PCB integration in-house — eliminating handoffs between molder, assembler, and PCB integrator.
Production Continuity. Domestic production at 2–3 week post-tooling lead times eliminates the months of buffer inventory required when sourcing offshore, and removes exposure to tariffs, ocean freight, and currency risk.
Design for Manufacturability (DFM). UPM performs first pass DFM at no additional cost on every program, before tooling is cut. Wall thickness, gate location, draft, rib structure, and resin selection are evaluated to prevent sink marks, knit lines, warpage, and dimensional drift on enclosures and housings. STEP is the preferred CAD file format.
Broad Tonnage Capacity. 30 machines from 150 to 2,000 tons — including five presses at 1,500 tons or higher — support both compact enclosures (industrial controls, handhelds, signal boosters) and large structural housings (EV chargers, kiosks, industrial cabinets, AV equipment).
Engineering-Grade and UL-Listed Materials. UPM runs polycarbonate (PC), PC/ABS, ABS, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), nylon (PA), TPE, TPO, PBT, glass-filled grades, and UL-listed flame-retardant resins for regulated industrial and electronics applications. Material selection is reviewed as part of DFM.
Integrated Assembly and Finishing. Class-A paint, silk-screen, pad print, hot stamp, ultrasonic and hot-plate welding, mechanical assembly, and PCB integration run in the same Baldwin Park facility as molding, under one ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
Quality, PPAPs & First Articles. ISO 9001:2015 certified, IATF 16949 compliant. PPAPs (Level 3), First Article Inspections (FAI), and full lot-level traceability available as standard.
Related Capabilities:
UPM tests pre-assembled PCB boards supplied by the customer — functional and continuity testing — and installs them into molded components as part of final assembly. UPM does not manufacture or populate PCB boards.
