Large Structural Components. Pallets, bulk containers, and transport-grade dunnage commonly exceed the 700- to 1,000-ton clamp range of typical regional molders. UPM’s three 2,000-ton presses, ~540 oz shot capacity, and 94.5″ × 77.3″ platen enable these parts to be molded in one piece, in one facility.
Resin & Tariff Exposure. Packaging programs are sensitive to resin price volatility and tariffs on imported resin or finished goods. UPM purchases domestically in U.S. dollars and runs PP and HDPE at volume — eliminating ocean freight, currency, and import-duty exposure on finished parts.
Volume Repeatability. Reusable packaging is bought in long-running, hard-tooled programs — typically 10,000 pieces through annual volumes in the millions. UPM is built for this profile: documented setup, in-process quality checkpoints, lot-level traceability, and dedicated mold maintenance staff.
Tooling Continuity. Reusable packaging programs commonly run 5 to 10 years. UPM holds customer-owned tooling in Baldwin Park under U.S. legal jurisdiction — no hostage-tooling risk, no offshore production handoffs, no IP exposure.
Broad Tonnage Capacity. 30 injection molding machines from 150 to 2,000 tons — including five presses at 1,500 tons or higher and three at 2,000 tons — support both compact totes and large structural pallets in the same facility.
Design for Manufacturability (DFM). UPM performs first pass DFM at no additional cost on every program, before tooling is cut. Wall thickness, rib geometry, gate location, and resin selection are evaluated for load performance and unit-cost optimization. STEP is the preferred CAD file format.
Engineering-Grade & Structural Resins. UPM runs polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as primary packaging resins, with glass-filled PP and glass-filled nylon available for load-bearing structural applications. Regrind and recycled-content blends are supported where program specifications allow.
One Account Manager = One Program Manager. A single contact owns the program from quote through production, across molding, finishing, assembly, and kitting — eliminating handoffs between molder, assembler, and 3PL.
