UPM's Los Angeles, CA Facility

Our 9-acre, 127,000 square foot facility in Baldwin Park, CA (Los Angeles) is fully equipped with 37 injection molding machines that have injection molding pressures ranging from 200 tons to 2000 tons of clamping force. Our partnership philosophy gives us the flexibility to reliability produce a wide range of plastic products, from smaller plastic parts, to medium sized, or even very large plastic parts to make UPM one of the leading full service solution providers.

With our close location to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, UPM can pick up and unload components and sub-components from overseas shipping containers. Often customers find it vastly less expensive to move their main manufacturing and assembly back to the United States, but keep the smaller sub-component manufacturing overseas. Since the smaller sub-components can fit more units in a shipping container, they have a much lower landed cost than the larger components, while the larger components and completed products achieve the lowest landed costs through lean US manufacturing by UPM. This is how we have provided many Fortune 500 customers with lower landed costs than China.

Our facility is strategically located only 28 miles from the Port of Long Beach, and 110 miles from the Mexican border. We can load and unload shipping containers, removing the need for expensive services that drive up carrying costs.

As one of the largest resin buyers on the West Coast, we are able to provide our customers with the lowest resin costs, which is critical with worldwide material costs on the rise.

We create specialized automated manufacturing work-cells to efficiently handle production in a manner that can quickly scale up or down with your real-time market demand. Customers order lead times are typically decreased from 6-10 weeks overseas, down to just 1 week with UPM. This eliminates the need to buy large quantities of product based on forecasting demand, which keeps your company's cash flow mobile in a difficult to predict economy. We can also handle full assembly down to the retail box, and direct shipping to customers and retail stores.

With a lean-manufacturing program, we eliminate hassles and carrying expenses incurred by overseas container shipping, warehouses, container unloading/loading, inventory management, and more. We can utilize our customer's overseas production to produce much of the smaller subcomponents that are inexpensive to ship, while manufacturing the large parts and assembling the product in the US. Through that strategy we synergize the strengths of both overseas and US manufacturing. This achieves lower landed costs than strictly China-based overseas manufacturing.
